Sophie turned 6 and Lola turned 1. They were born three days apart and I just couldn’t see having two birthday parties one week apart so I decided to throw a joint birthday party for my two littlest girls. These days birthday parties are mostly about the kids just hanging out with her friends so I tried to think of something fun, inexpensive and cute that we could do at our house. We just moved in to our new house in November and with the water being nice I had to throw a party in our backyard. We settled on a garden tea party complete with paper doll making and a homemade lemonade stand.
The centerpiece of Sophie’s party was the lemonade stand. I found one on Pinterest that I loved so I showed my husband a picture and he made it for us. Sophie is so excited to have her own lemonade stand and can’t wait until we can use it some more this summer. The materials for this project cost about $47 and my husband made it in about five hours.
I wanted some fun tassel garland but I didn’t want to pay a lot of money for it on Etsy so I made it myself with this tutorial. Total for three five foot pieces was about $10. I used the same tutorial and made a cute tassel garland cake topper and dipped the ends in glitter. For Lola’s smash cake I used pink card stock and folded it over dowel rods then glued it together and dipped the ends in gold glitter. I had my husband cut them to size.
In the past I have made all my cakes but, running out of time, I called Sugar and Frosting in Keller to make this gorgeous ombre’ cake for me and sweet little white smash cake with gold dots. They did a fabulous job and it tasted just as good as it looked!
Finally, for food I kept it simple for the girls and made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut out with princess crowns, dipped marshmellows, fruit tarts, tea cookies and butterfly Little Debbie cakes. There weren’t very many adults since it was more for Sophie and her friends but I did have some salads, fruit and veggies on hand.
We made paper dolls, friendship bracelets, lemonade and lot’s of memories. Enjoy!
